JOB DESCRIPTION:

American International College is a private institution of higher education located on a 52 acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. Founded in 1885, the College has 3,400 graduate and undergraduate students. It awards undergraduate degrees in four principal areas of study: liberal arts, business administration, psychology and education (including criminal justice), and health science (nursing, physical and occupational therapy). At the graduate level it offers masters degrees in business, education, psychology, and public administration and has two doctoral programs. The mission of the College is to transform student lives through career focused learning, with a strong foundation in the liberal arts, a commitment to serving the community, and a high level of involvement in the global economy.

The individual in this position will assist in protecting the campus community; make periodic safety checks of buildings and grounds; conduct surveillance of assigned areas; determine the extent of violations and take appropriate Police action; take appropriate steps to effectively handle emergency situations; investigate complaints and incidents; report violations of Federal and State laws and College rules and regulations for student conduct; carry out parking enforcement; and perform related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate for this position must have a minimum of two years experience preferably in an academic environment. Municipal Police Training Committee (M.P.T.C) Reserve Intermittent Academy certification; a valid Massachusetts Firearms Identification (F.I.D) Card; and a valid driver's license. Knowledge of basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word; strong communication, verbal and written skills are required. Good report writing skills are essential. Must be able to obtain basic first aid and CPR certification.

WORK HOURS/SCHEDULE:

This position is a full-time (40) forty hour, non-exempt position. Hours are flexible to the needs of the department.
